Thanks to one well-connected blogger, I found out it is true: foreigners cannot buy cars more than three years old. Apparently, YESTERDAY, a law passed that Iraqis get a two year extension on that, they can buy 2003 models. That was kind.
As if every foreigner here comes with an embassy and and an unlimited budget, ready to buy the latest SUV.
A recent JT article talked about fears of brain-drain in Jordan with the rising cost of living forcing people out for work elsewhere. I guess they’ll have to add foreigner brains to the equation, too.

You mean you don’t have wasta in your government to get them to give you a car?! What a backward government you have!
Would this law stop you from buying ANYCAR and keeping it in the Jordanian owner’s name? As long as you have a Jordanian license you should be fine!
Damn, I can’t believe I’m telling people how to circumvent the law. My god forgive me!

Har=har, yea, I’ll just my good buddy HE David Hale and he’ll make a few calls and all will be good.
Qwaider, thanks for the tip!! What a thought! If you ever want me to delete that part of the comment, just let me know

Kinz, how frustrating. Can a person make a GIFT of a car pre-2003 to a foreigner? Might be another way to accomplish the desired still living within the bounds of the law…

Ya MB, if you only knew. Which I will fill you in on, when I see you.
They can make the gift, but it can’t go into the name of the receiver.
