After seventeen months of blogging, 425 or so posts, 84,000 or so views and more than 30,000 spam comments, I just received my 5,000th comment!!
Gila Weiss is a new linker, an American-Israeli blogger who lives in Tel Aviv. She is a survivor of a bomb attack there, which is why she started her blog ‘My Shrapnel”
In the last month, I’ve been linked by three American women living in Israel. It has been an eye-opener, and a reminder why we need to be ‘in touch’ at many levels to hear stories from every side of the issue. I trust we can all ‘be nice’ to one another as we connect on-line and bump into painful areas.
Thanks to all who continue to make this blogging experience a fun, instructive and stretching part of life.

Kinzi, I think your true 5000th comment celebration should come at your 10,000th comment!
Basically, you are one of the most responsive bloggers I know. You tend to take time to respond to practically everybody’s comments (and it is much appreciated…)
I enjoy reading your posts!!
But that makes for about 2,500 comments that are not yours. OK, maybe that’s not exactly accurate… sometimes you combine your responses to several people’s comments ..):) ok, ok maybe the ratio is 3:1 on average (for every 3 comments made to your post, you reply once.) So let’s see, I would say, you have received 3,750 comments, and you have replied 1,250 times. You need to hit 6,670 comments to achieve a true 5,000 score! Tell us when you hit that magic number, and we’ll uncork the champagne! lol
Keep blogging

Uggggh, I was in a pizzaria in Jerusalem once with my cousin, and 30 minutes after I left the place was blown up.

ZIAD!!! OH NO!!! Tell me it isn’t true!!! BUT IT IS!!! I checked, and sure enough, it counts my OWN comments. I am SO embarassed. M-o-r-t-i-f-i-e-d. Self-inflated comment stas???? I am going to crawl under my desk and go fetal position and suck my thumb. I am going to delete this post!!! AAAHHHGGGGG. Who says blogging isn’t a good tool of God to create humility??
Thanks for bringing me back to reality when I got dazzled my all those self-inflicted zeros. Yabayay. I can’t believe it, oh, I am blushing and just will not get over it for at least another ten minutes. Oh dear, oh dear.
Gila, have a virtual frappacino on me! Except of course, as Ziad points out, it isn’t REALLY 5,000, since I am such a rapid comment-responder!
Hani, wow, we came that close to losing you???? I bet that affected your perspective on life!! whoa! what a difference a half hour makes. Yikes. :O

Kinzi, it happened more than 20 years ago (in fact it was my neighbour who accompanied me, I’m not sure why i wrote cousin). Anyhow, I was too young at the time to understand the significance of the event.
Even now I did not think of it in terms of life is short, I could have died, what if there is a god etc….
Rather I thought the bomb would have exploded killing both Israelis and Palestinians inside the Pizzaria. It doesn’t care. They’re all human, and that’s just the point.
7 years ago (2001), the roof collapsed during an Israeli wedding reception. Two dozen people died, and hundreds were injured. My sister forwarded an email that her friends forwarded to her. They were very pleased at this event. They said the pigs got what they deserved. Some quoted Quran verses to support this claim. I went and picked up every email address in the whole chain, and emailed them all back saying: what’s wrong with you ? They’re human beings just like you. What if it was your wedding and your friends and family who were killed ? Most of them responded angrily saying they don’t think I’m an Arab!
When the Amman bombings happened, I was hoping people would see the parallel (the bombings targeted several wedding celebration this time of Jordanians), and understand that killing civilians is not the answer, but this wasn’t the case.

All in good fun Kinzi! I was goofing and didn’t intend to point out any errors on your behalf. 5,000 comments is a number not be scoffed at! And thanks for Gila’s link by the way… I am not sure how I feel about anything anymore, I just pray for peace (at no one’s expense), and a cessation of pain and hatred.

Haniobaid–was that Sbarro? If so, consider yourself truly blessed. That one was particularly lethal.
Wierd–I remember seeing the a photo of one of the survivors a week or so later, noting the shrapnel wounds on her face and thinking “oh, that poor thing”. Little did I know!

Gila, I don’t recall the name, and I haven’t been to Jerusalem in many years, but I suppose there can’t have been too many Pizzarias that were bombed (I hope), so it could be the one you mentioned.
About the shrapnel, I can only imagine. Life is difficult enough without such an added burden, especially considering how superficial we have become. I hope you get well soon.

Hani, I suppose it was God’s mercy you were too young to understand some things…but it sounds like what you did understand framed your today. Pretty brave of you to write back to those who sent the email, and I completely agree. All human life is valuable…when we ‘verminize’ any particular group, for whatever they have done, we devalue our own humanity as well. I am indeed glad you were spared, as your views are in need in these days.
Ziad, oh yes, I know it was in fun. I am just amazed at how I embarrass myself in front of the whole www with my lack of tech-nerstanding. :S but, I am laughing too, and of course, wouldn’t delete that post! I’m glad you checked Gila’s blog. She is hilarious and poignant, and i think your idea of praying for peace for all is a very good idea.
Gila, I remember Sbarro, and actually have a fear reaction when I see the sign at the Mecca Mall counter here. I am praying for continued healing for you, in whatever way it is needed.
