Black BMW Sedan License #14-55834

What is it about black BMWs and Mercedes drivers that they just MUST exceed the speed limit? Yesterday, one of each sped through a residential area when kindergarten kids were getting out. Had a child run into the street, he/she would be quite dead, not enough of a body left for proper washing and burial.

Later in the day in a different area, when another school was getting out, this particular BMW passed me three times as if on crack while school children lined both sides of the street. It was being driven by a young man, his shirt even appeared to be one of the local private school uniforms. There were young children in the car, not buckled.

The third time, I braked in the middle of the road to make him stop so I could get a look at the license plate. This is it. I hope someone does something about it.

How many more lives will be cut short due to stupidity?

**UPDATE: Ali blogs about a four year old boy who was killed by such a driver yesterday. On his birthday. I am ready to start a MADD group - Mothers Against Delinquent Drivers.

Seriously, it is hardly safe to go for a walk in a residential neighborhood these days, never mind trying to cross the street! On the other hand there is also the problem of careless pedestrians; today I saw a driver slam on his brakes to barely miss hitting a small child who ran out into traffic. I felt bad for the driver–imagine if he had failed to stop in time. I’ve had the same experience in my neighborhood. Is there number you can call to report the license plate numbers of reckless drivers?

I’ll tell my brother to cut it out!! Seriously, follow him home and talk to his mom…trust me you’ll be doing them a huge favor! I would caution though taking the law into your own hands…..he obviously has no regard for human life.

Hmmm. I have often wondered if you can report someone and have it stick. Someone called the customs police on a friend of mine and tipped them off that she still had American license plates. The lovely customs police found her at her place of study, walked right into the class and embarressed the heck out of her.

So, could it work for traffic violations? Most of the times I think about it, there is no way to get a pen and write down the info fast enough, while driving. Obviously. Need a car camera to snap those little offenders.

Your blog was in my dream last night. Ha. One of the people with whom I was speaking (dreaming) said, “Oh, yeah, we love her blog and we have read all her books!” InshAllah that will be case. Um Omar

Desertmom, yes, this is a real concern. I don’t think there is such a number, and maybe that is better, as some could mis-use it to get revenge on drivers who hadn’t done another more than annoy another one. No other witness could back the story. Nas had an interesting post about the pedestrian side of the issue.

YFA, too funny..wasn’t it your cousin who drove the Porsche I blogged about last summer? Shu intu? Officer Friendly, now following someone home and telling Mom is a GREAT idea! And I will be careful :) Walk softly and carry a BIG baseball bat, I always say.

Um Omar, now THATS the ticket (literally), get a photo. I said the number out loud, and had the kids write it down. I am really surprised about your friend, that is a pretty shameful way for the customs folks to handle it. THANK YOU for the dream!!! It made my afternoon: “…and ALL her books!” WOW! My writing mentor will be in the country next week, I’ll have to tell her. Thank you for the honor and future vision!

Maher, ana wiyak! so is that what it takes? One has to beat them up? Yikes. I am keeping a baseball bat in the car now, just to look really mean and nasty as I stand in their way and DARE them…no, not really :D
