Pat & Ex-Pat Jordanians, Take Note!
Have you seen the new “Field Guide To Jordan”? If i can use a very VIVA term, it’s a MUST-HAVE!!!
At only 15JD, it is a wealth of words and images capturing the fine details of this unique land that is Urdun. If you are looking for gifts for far-flung Jordanians that will make them cry with homesickness and come back, this is it. Available at Readers, and all the usual places. (hat-tip: Desertmom, my flora & fauna resource). Who would have known the Maani clan are so multi-talented? Not only can one of them run a city really well, they are amazing artists.
Can you tell i’ve been shopping for gifts? More ideas for the thrifty minded:
* for wrinkling middle-aged sisters-in-law, $20 tubes of RetinA are only 5.5JD at Cozmo.
* Al Afghani Bazar (Bizarre? Bazaar? Bazaziir?) ) has cool ‘frig magnets.
* an even cheaper “Mish Normal” knock-off at Duwwar Hawuuz has Cold Water Creek blouses for 2JD
(Sorry I’ve been such a bad blogger. But I’ve been a good mom, so priorities are in order)

I’ve been reading your blog for several months now and have enjoyed. We are moving to Jordan this summer, so I jumped on Amazon and ordered the book! Thank you for the recommendation!

Annie, thanks for moving from reader to commenter! You are a fun writer and an even funner mom. The female American Amman population officially greets you. (The Jordanian male side will too, be assured). I’m very glad you were able to order the book; not only will you enjoy it, but if you have any friends or relatives who are uneasy about Jordan, it will help them see it for what it is.

Hey Kinzi,
Glad you were able to find a copy of the Field Guide. I’ll definitely be taking some back to the States this summer myself. And thanks for the other great gift tips. We were at Al Afghani on Monday and youngest daughter was having fun picking out brightly colored scarfs for her young girlfriends. I’m certain they of Jordanian origin but they will make great gifts nonetheless.

For more gift ideas:
I picked up a bunch of “Pashmina” scarves in Jebal Hussien and the Balad for between 3 JD and 5 JD. They were a big hit! (I gave them to all the ladies who helped with our wedding.)
Al Afghani has gorgeous table covers. You can negotiate them down to around 8-10 JD a piece. Also the Balad sells table covers– not as nice, but cheaper and more “authentic”.
