In either country, the Kounouz fam isnot a movie-going group. We are DVD borrowers as with ages between 6 and 54, it’s hard to find something we all like. But about once a year, we find one we all want to see, and this year it was Prince Caspian. All the kounouz kuzins lined up to see it the night it came out, along with most of our local friends kids, so we kinda missed the BIG extended family film experience last week. Malesh, it gave us a great excuse for a family matinee date.
Skeeter has read the kounouz the WHOLE Narnia series THREE times. I’ve read it regularly since I was 12. But what we saw today, none of us remembered! Some bits, yea, Reepicheep and the discovery of Cair Paraval, but for the most part, it was an exciting new story. One thing we did remember, is that this book was their least favorite of the series, so we agreed the film makers did a great job.
Skeeter took us all to Dairy Queen afterward (YAHOO!!!) to talk about our favorite parts and what we got out of the film. For the kounouz, it was Reepicheep’s spunk and hilarious lines, he stole the show. History Buff had been afraid Prince Caspian and Queen Susan were headed toward matrimony, so he was relieved it when limited to a kiss. May he always have an aversion to PDA. For me, it was the reminder not to run ahead of God’s plan just because I can’t see Him in it. For hubby, it was how Aslan called each of his followers to account for their lack of faith and patience, but recognized their repentance and poured out his grace and forgiveness. He also appreciated how not once but twice, King Peter relinquished authority to Prince Caspian.
This film didn’t draw me in like the first, the musical score didn’t thrill my soul, but it was still very much worth the time and money.
(I had planned to have that Butterfinger Blizzard, but Heath Bar Bllizzards were on sale, so Spikekid and I split one. Yum. Can’t have a post without telling you what I ate now, right?)

BAM, are you in the US???? Or there’s a DQ in Amman??? Spill the beans, guy! Thanks for visiting, I thought for sure you were boycotting due to no Jesus Camp post.
Or, excessively fluffy posts with no substance. BUT, I brought my JC notes with me, and I seem to have lots of blogging time, so it should happen soon. Especially since my sis-in-law and I are workign n a Bible Camp for her church kids, so I mentally compare every activity with the JC doc.
Yea, Prince Caspian is a great film if you aren’t expecting true-to-book rendition. It’s a Disney-fied, and Jackson-ized facsimile which is enjoyable but not compelling. IMHO

As for JC… yeah i’m looking forward to that.
either way keep it light and enjoy the vacation and hope the kids are having a blast too. and good luck with the camp, its nice that ur helping out even on ur R&R and i’m sure u’ll do a great job.

Bam, so the prayers I have lifted for a job more worthy of your brain have been answered?? MABRUUK!!! Now you get a brain-freeze from DQ to match!
Thanks for continuing to visit, and patience with the JC post, and good wishes for our summer. Moms do a lot of that volunteering stuff even on vacation, and it is good for Catholic/Evangelical relations. Which I’m sure I’ll be posting about alot!

the makers of Prince Caspian kept to the original story surprisingly well… i heard they were going to make it into a silly pure-action flick, but thankfully this was not the case

Patrick, thanks for visiting! I need to read the book again to decide!
