Father Gets 13 Years for Raping Daughter
By kinziblogs
He made ‘a mistake’, he says.
He was acquitted of the hundreds of other times he raped and sodomized her for ‘lack of evidence’.
Thank God the family stepped in to stop the violence, but why, of why, WAIT until this girl had suffered so much?
Precious broken baby

Poor girl! It is good that hse was couragreous enough to stand up for herself. There should be better protecting measurment for children in Jordan.
I wonder how much damage did he inflict on her? Would therapy help easing up her pain?

This makes me sick in the stomach!
Clearly there is a fundamental conversation missing in our society at many levels when it comes to incest, violence/crimes against women and child abuse.
How do you think such topics should be addressed in media and public service messaging that may enlighten people against such behavior and empower others to act against? What kind of social dialog is needed? How can we better address this? There must be a better way.

Observer, ever empathetic. If she is still young, she is probably already at Daar AlAmaan and the whole family receiving good care. I know there are like programs for adults, but this kind of damage is body, soul, and spirit pervasive. May she receive the help she needs at every level to recover some of what was taken. :’(

Nadine, may it ALWAYS ellicit that kind of response from people until it changes.
Although there are steps being made, the incest barrier to abuse prevention is the most difficult. In my experience, it is the most common form of sexual abuse in Jordan, more so than other societies because girls are most often at home and left under the ‘care’ of their abusers. Mothers are forced to a degree of complicit involvement for fear of losing livelihood or family honor. Younger sisters live in the awareness that their ‘turn’ is coming.
I am in the process of writing a book about it, weaving the stories of incest local victims in between prevention and awareness practical help. It isn’t meant to to a Western sensational thing, but local, in Arabic (translated, not me writing in it) for this community. I am really excited to have some royal backing on it, too. The time has come.
What we need is a film. I hope Amin’s film on honor killing weaves this in. I’d love to have your energy and input on it, too.

What kind of judgement is this?
raping her over 250 times,The court declared the defendant guilty of sexually assaulting his daughter at home on March 7 and handed him the maximum penalty.

I threw up my breakfast reading the article today. I was waiting for the usual sentence, “the defendants sentence was reduced by half due to the family dropping the charges against him”. Still a light sentence in any reasonable person’s opinion. I wonder if these child rapists receive the same type of prison treatment their counterparts in the US receive…one can only hope.

Blogerette Susan (Al Hayat) reported on this earlier, and was very frustrated with the trial (and judgement).
It’s sad really to see these animals in control of the lives of children like that. I personally don’t think 13 years is enough for such a crime. But all the punishment in the world will not bring back a single smile that was stolen from this little girl.

Hamede, did I misunderstand?
yfa, I’m sorry to wreck breakfast.

He should have killed after raping her, that would have dropped his sentence to 6 months.

it is strange that the other current case in Jordan where a repairman raped a young girl, he got a death penalty http://www.alghad.jo/?news=376748 while the father got 13 years in jail! is there a law says a stranger gets a death penalty while a father gets 13 years!?
Hareega, God loves her, he didnt make her father that smart.

Qwaider, does she post in English? No, vengence is not sweet for victims, and the tragedy is, he’s the only daddy she’s ever known and probably loves a remnant of who he was. Such conflicting emotions in addition to all she has suffered.
Khadra, yes, tragic.
Sam, yes, he will pay in this world and the next. Men, and women, who can know what depravity they will stoop too when they let evil flow unchecked?
Husams, I completely forgot about that case!!! A maximum penalty for a father is 13 years, for a stranger death? What is going on with that??? What an important point, as well as yours to Hareega, thank God in His mercy he was not a smart man.

Sick sick sick! I not only hope but I’m also sure he will get what he deserves one day and I think it would be something so ugly that one ca’t even imagine

Ola, isn’t it though? I am actually hoping, praying, that while he pays the price in THIS life, he has a change of heart, and becomes a poster-dad for change for the rest of the years God gives him after his sentence.
