Move over, Cinnabon. My readers will now be able to make two PANS of cinnamon rolls for the price you charge for ONE roll. Recession-ista in the kitchen!
To be 100% honest, these are Myrla’s Cinnamon Rolls from her magic No-Rise hot roll mix. I just don’t do plain rolls, I’d rather save my calories for a more equitable taste/calorie exchange, like cinnamon rolls or something chocolate. I know the ladies are hearing me on that.
Nizar, sorry it took me so long. for those who are helped with a visual, Nizar says he will post photos of his first go through with the recipe! He did such a good job with Ramadan cookies, he may have to be a guest-chef at Mimi Cooks.
Update: Meant to add, these have been taste-tested and heartily approved by the Bean Family, as well.
OK. Here we go:
1 Tablespoon (T) yeast
1/2 Cup warm water (feels warm, not scalding, on your wrist)
1 Tablespoon sugar
1/2 Cup oil (use Canola for health benes, says Desertmom)
* Dissolve yeast in warm water with the 1 T sugar in a large bowl. Add oil and blend well
* In a separate bowl, mix together:
5-6 Cups flour (can substitute up to 1 1/2 Cups whole wheat flour)
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon soda (not baking powder)
5 teaspoons baking powder (not soda)
1/2 Cup sugar (or less)
* Add flour mixture to bowl of yeast mixture. Blend well. Add:
2 Cups yogurt (or buttermilk or sour milk)
* Mix well. Knead for at least five minutes, until elastic.
Place in a greased, airtight container (I use ziploc bags). Keep in the refrigerator. Will last at least two weeks – this is the beauty of it!!
When you are ready for rolls, remove a big hunk (or the whole thing if you have a larger than 9″ x 13″ x 2″ pan) and roll out a rectangle, 1/4″ thickness, onto a well-floured surface.
Brush with melted butter, sprinkle with sugar, cinnamon and if available, brown sugar. Roll up,slice in 1″ thick circles and place in greased 9″ x 13″ x 2″ pan (I like glass best). You can leave 1/2″ between for circular rolls, or if you like the smushed look, put them close together. Bake at 375 degrees F for 15 minutes. Check and turn, if you have an oven like mine, for even baking.
Mix together for glaze:
1 Cup powdered sugar
1/4 teaspoon vanilla flavoring
drop almond flavoring
Add milk by tablespoon to thin to desired consistency. If you like thick glaze, more like frosting, add just a teeny bit of milk. If you like it drizzly, add more.
Add raisins, dates, coconut or walnuts to make it Iraqi- ma3muul-ish.
Substitute butter, sugar and cinnamon for NUTELLA. Wicked delish. Don’t tell me how many calories.
Substitute butter, sugar and cinnamon with zayt and za3ter (olive oil and thyme) (don’t add sugar to four mix).
Use as easy pastry for mana3eesh, pizza, sfii7a (don’t add sugar to flour mix)

Nizar! GREAT WORK! I’m hungry now, tho, and cucumbers aren’t satisfying!! I added a link to your post
Marwa, just think, three bloggers having cinnamon rolls for breakfast tomorrow!!! Pretty fun!
Summer, so fun to connect with you on cooking again! These cinnamon rolls are our new Christmas morning tradition. Alone, boo!! Is your hubby traveling?
This would be a fun recipe to teach the girls, maybe your daughter could video?

I was planning on filming the procedure but I didn’t have my video camera at home and filming with the web cam is not practical nor results in a good quality.
Maybe next time (next year?).

How did you know that my husband is traveling, again
!! i guess the video taping note gave it away!!
this is a great idea…i may do it with the girls soon and my daughter can video tape us…i got myself and the granddaughters matching denim aprons with our names on it it would be fun to wear them and make this easy recipe. thanks for the link too

Mmmm, cinnamon rolls. I’m always on the lookout for a good recipe. Move over Cinnabon, indeed! I’m ALL about posting delicious recipes on my blog. And i like your suggestions for alternate uses for the dough.
I’ll head down to the dukkaan today and pick up the necessary items. Maybe we’ll have it for breakfast on Sat. or something. Yummy!
