Today’s Jordan Times has an article covering the sentencing of an uncle who killed his niece for reasons of ‘honor’. He received a seven and one-half year sentence. An improvement on the obligatory six month slap on the hand, but hardly just desserts for premeditated woman slaughter.
Oh yea, and of course, it was determined she was not sexually active.
And of course, the family dropped the charges.
Nas and I both blogged about this one, she was the relative of a friend of mine.

“It was clear to the court that the murder took place following an argument and not because the defendant intended to cleanse his family honour as claimed in court,” the tribunal ruled.
so because they deemed it a genuine act of impulsiveness they increaded the sentence… premeditated murder for honor is still ok though
Punishment still doesn’t fit the crime but I suppose it’s progress
how frustrating .she did nothing too !!! holy crap.7.5 years what da hell!!! the idea is just crazy, that u can kill someone and walk away from it.
I hate to be the one looking at the half empty part of the cup. But there wasn’t any improvement here my dear.
The case wasn’t tried as a “[dis]Honor” case that’s why he got the sentence. Nothing changed!
Loolt and Qwaider, yea, it’s not ‘officially’ an honor penalty, I know, I just keep looking for some positive forward movement. If the family hadn’t dropped charges, it would’ve been more, mish? If my brother killed my daughter, I’d want full justice served.
Stephen, that’s what I am hoping.
Naser, welcome back! Yea, I bet you can only walk away if it is a daughter who ‘seems’ wayward, or maybe insults her uncle one too many times.
