Valentine’s Day ISN’T “Christian”

In it’s current form and practice, anyway, there is no religious connotation. Sure, there is some historical background, but nothing worth stomping roses over.

Lil Kinz came home sad from school. She had asked her dad to bring back Valentine’s Day cards for her classmates, and then carefully wrote out the names of her friends. She was excited to pass them out today.

She came home to say that a little boy told the other kids they couldn’t take them because they were “Christian”. Those who received them he took and ripped up, he even took them away from the Christian kids. We had the little discussion about rudeness being a state of all humanity, but I can see the wheels turning in her little mind.

Just in case anyone is wondering, these weren’t ‘stealth’ Christian Valentine’s cards with a hidden evangelistic message. They were from Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda.

Ya salaam.

Aww, poor Lil Kinz. I guess there are mean kids everywhere. Nothing gets my mama bear heart fired up like a bully! Happy Valentine’s Day anyway Kinzi, Lil Kinz, and the whole Kinzi family. Keep on lovin!

  2. thank you, i don’t know who came up with this idea that it’s a christian holiday.

  3. Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda huh ? nice try ;) Those are American movies aren’t they? and America links to G,Bush and G,Bush said the Iraq war had to do with religion and then Sara Palin said God Bless America or something ; thereforeeee Valentine’s card with Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda figures are in fact and certainly a great threat to those little kids minds .

  4. and Happy Valentine’s day hope u had a great one :d

  5. Where were the teachers?! Sometimes I wonder what they’re thinking and why they aren’t more actively teaching manners. Perhaps they fear parental retribution… :( . And, after all, who would think that Madasgar cards saying, “Be My Valentine” were Christian?! Silly boy. Glad she didn’t wop him upside the head, but maybe it’s too bad… Teehee.

  6. Even if Valentine’s Day originates from Christian believes, that guy has no right what so ever to behave and act the way he did, If such a thing happened to my daughter I would be talking to the headmaster the next morning.

Religious differences should be put on a side if people want to live together peacefully, specially at such a young age.

They are children, if they are not taught how to behave in a civilized manner at this age they will never learn.

Well for what it matters, Valentines Day is not a MUSLIM holiday either and I am not sure why so many Muslims are practicing it as some kind of fad. To clear things up, they should wipe out all of the consumeristic holidays and let us all clear our consciences from it. We should love one another everyday and not have a special day to show our feelings to one another. The same goes for Mothers Day and Fathers Day, etc.

Thanks for that rant. Seems these Western holidays are growing here in the Kingdom every year and I am sure it is just to make money…

  8. what a little snot!!! I feel so bad for yout lil kinz :( I hope she wasnt too crushed!

anyway, even if it was christian, so what? i’ve never heard of such bigotry!

    maybe speak to his parents?

  9. So sad that the little boy has so much anger in his heart at such a tender age. What a terrible way to grow up, being angry at everything and anything loosely related to Christianity.

So sad that your little sweetheart had to experience persecution at such a young age. Yes, the P word is the right word for it. The effort to squelch her expression of love is what Christians experience from those who don’t understand it. How blessed she is to have believing parents to help heal her bruised heart and to strengthen her love for others. I think Valentines Day is thought to be a Christian holiday because of the SAINT Valentine it commerates.

I have never been the kind to celebrate valentine’s day; I do think ot’s nothing but a consumers-value. However, it is really heartbreaking to see such “ideas” instilled in a little boys heart. I wonder what his parents have been teaching him at home. Narrow-minds really get on my nerves.
Let’s suppose it was actually a Christian holiday, where do you get off telling people that there religion is wrong and imposing your values over other peoples’ ( I am not talking about the little boy of course; I think he is too little to realize what the magnitude of this particular action)

  12. Too sad for Lil Kinz! Actually, when I told Dear Husband the story he said almost exactly what Naser said.

  13. Laura, Hareega, Naser (lol), MomaBean, Nizar, Um Omar, loolt, Sharon, Nunu, Lucia, Desertmom…thanks so much for sharing my sentiments and empathizing with my little girl. She seems to be ok with it, and much happier after the Bean Kids shared her joy over them.

It seems to have happened before class started and the teacher was not in the room. I will be talking to the teacher, the administration I know won’t do anything and little Mohammed is such a terror I know his parents won’t do anything about it either. He may have even heard such sentiments at home, anyway.

(sorry for no individual responses, the 3azza wore me out and I am in the kitchen today)
