Well, Size 10 is now a PLUS SIZE

GO CANADA! Gotta love those practical Canadians, a whole lotta SJs north of the US border.

Dangerously thin models have been a controversial topic in the past, but at a recent London fashion show, it was a trio of plus-sized models who caused a commotion. The Daily Mail reports that when Canadian designer Mark Fast announced to his staff that three women who wore sizes 10 and 12 (UK sizes 12 and 14) would be in his show, two members of his team apparently quit in disgust.

The show was saved by two last-minute volunteers who worked late to get the collection together. “We are glad we stuck to our vision,” Amanda May, Fast’s creative director, said. “We wanted women to know they didn’t have to be a size zero to wear a Mark Fast dress—curvier women can look even better in them.”

For those who are learning to embrace our lumps and muffins while in the process of burning them off, it was an encouragement.I am pleased to report that I am SURE that my wrists are size O.

After a struggle with weight, I lost 6 kilos to reach size 12. I was proud of the achievement untill I found out I am a plus size:( hehe

the illustrated BMI categories…. shows you how mad the BMI categorisation is. and since the sizing charts are rather random, and what constitutes a plus size is even more random, it just goes to show that we cannot rely on others to determine whether we really are overwight/unhealthy.

    Thanks for this

Well, like it or not, in Jockey underwear in the States, a size 8 is a plus size, which totally ticked me off and made me not want to buy their undies.

Maybe they should re-size everything in the world into ‘average-sized woman’, ‘smaller than average’ and ‘larger than average’. That would really change the way we look at size. I imagine average would be about a 14 in today’s sizes. SubhanAllah.

  4. I like Um Omars’ idea :D in the UK the average is a size 16 (14 US), which would make me below average lol :D

  5. I don’t pay any mind to sizes any more. They differ so greatly from store to store. I might be a size 4 in one place and a 10 somewhere else. Which, of course is annoying…who can order from a catalogue unless you go through the complicated ritual of measuring every “lump and muffin”…and a few extras, every single time? After taking Oriental Dance, I was left with a desire for more “curves”…being a stick does NOT inspire sensuality in any way whatsoever!!
