Safeway is 50% more expensive? Don’t they have price-matching policy
Not to rain on your baking parade or anything but I stopped using Crisco when I learned how hazardous it is to one’s health. Bad, bad, bad. Worse than butter. I even switched to canola oil for pie crusts.

The cake icing and chocolate chip cookies are pretty nasty stuff for the health, I suppose, whatever they are made with.

Butter and butter. And with the high price of Crisco, butter isn’t really more expensive–if you buy, say, the Normand Cow brand rather than Lurpack. And, at least when you’re eating butter you somehow acknowledge that it is bad for you and don’t eat too much–it seems to have sort of psychological effect on me. Here’s a link that has more info about Crisco, trans-fats, fully/partially hydrogenated oils, etc. I also stopped buying the cheaper peanut butters for the same reason.
