Slave Trade, Egypt to Israel

Over the past decade, about 10,000 women have been trafficked into Israel in what Keidar calls “modern slavery.”

The women are locked, beaten, raped, starved and forced to receive 15-30 men a day 365 days a year, according to the attorney.

About three years ago, Israeli police greatly reduced women trafficking by pouring resources into the problem. Security forces have also helped by stepping up patrols on the Israeli-Egyptian border as a result of al Qaeda presence in the Sinai.

This 300-kilometer border was the main route for smuggling women into Israel, Keidar said.

  1. Goodness gracious, I never heard of this ! thanks for the wise leadership of Egypt, one can expect anything nowadays. And of course thanks for Israel for setting an exmple for a peaceful democracy in the Middle East…*sigh*

  2. Yes…*sigh*. How horrid…how despicable…how disgusting. Oh I hope “they” manage to eradicate this terrifying slavery. It kind of makes you feel helpless doesn’t it, to know and yet not be able to do anything, and to have to rely on the “they”…

  3. Hamdanism, this is what I keep telling my friends in the US. Arg. And we fund it heavily. Arg arg arg.

Isobel, it seems the ‘they’ who are fighting have come up with some great ideas, but the ‘they’ who sustain the status quo do make me feel helpless. :(

  4. Yes, Kinzi, you’re right…it’s just I wish it was completely eradicated. I can only begin to imagine the suffering of these women.

  5. I think I want to throw up.
