There are many ways we are just like most Jordanians. One of them, one my eldest has been giving me grief over for years, is that we have never taken the kids to Jordan’s World Wonder, Petra. “Mom. We are the ONLY ones who have never been. That’s just so ghetto”.
The Hub and I went twice BK (Before Kids). Then, after ten years of pregnancy, c-section recovery, nursing, miscarriage, D & C and recovery, and having toddlers who would get tired of walking half-way to the Siq, we kept delaying. “Mom, Petra!”
Then we were ready and … all the family friends were going to Wadi Dana. Lovely place, but you practically pay Sheraton prices for sleeping in a tent. A very cool tent. It was worth is as the friends were so awesome. But on the way home “Mom, Petra!!!!!”
Then we were ready and … cancer struck. “MOM!!! PETRAAAAAAAAA!” Kids are still kids even when mom has cancer.
Then we were ready and … aqaameh delay. We won’t pay ‘Ferner’ prices “Mom”, sigh “Do we have to be so ghetto?”
We just got back from two days in Petra. It was so fun. So many bloggable moments. Kids are happy. More later, as an early deadline looms, and an interview with another magazine!! We are gonna get that orthodontic work paid for after all!

Can’t wait to read more, glad you went! Jordan Ghetto, love it.
Okay. So I am a bit shocked that you had never taken them to ‘Betra!’ I don’t mean to be on their side or anything… ha! I understand the circumstances of the PAST UMPTEEN YEARS?!!?!! He he. Hope to hear more, I’m sure they loved it!
Robin, I will try and keep quiet until I blog it
Suzanne, sigh, epic-Urduni-mom-fail. I know this will send my kids to therapy: “Hi, my name is Spikekid. I grew up in Jordan and my parents didn’t take me to Petra until I was 16. Then mom blogged about it”.
Be warned, oh Mother of Young Ones. Nice to see you back!
