Bedouin or logger, no one can resist a pastoral scene like this. Sheep are common creatures in our fair desert land, although they would probably dream of such lush green meadows to graze rather than the rare vacant lot in a city of several million people. BUT, spring time has been pretty lush around Amman too, and the sheep here look no less fat-n-happy as they do on the ranch.
These Columbian yearlings haven’t been shorn yet. There were a couple of lambs born a week before we came.
Ok ok, maybe that only tickles the fancy of female Redd-necks and Aye-rabs. Now here is a sight that will make the mouth of either man water, their favorite role of lamb in life:
Yup, hate to say it, but I think Redd-necks and Aye-rabs like their lamb best on a plate. Whether in Mansaf, the national dish of Jordan, or marinated and grilled as it was for the reception of the ranch wedding, Redd-necks and Aye-rabs agree that it is an internationally loved delicacy.
The lamb served for the 150 guests at the wedding was grown on the ranch and served with mint sauce canned by my sister from wild mint growing near the stream and apple trees from their 100 year-old orchard. Add Caesar salad (Roman Imperialism at it’s most delicious!) baby red potatoes tossed with olive oil (hey, another ingredient we both love!) and grilled California asparagus, and we had one delicious dinner.
And that’s not all!
More to come…

Those sheep look blond
I didn’t expect lamb steak would be served in an American wedding. I always thought Americans like beef more. It is almost impossible to find lamb meat in grocery shops here in my town. We have to buy it from international markets. For me lamb meat is the best!
My objection continues! (yep, it is an escape mechanism)
Jaraad, hah! Most Americans probably do like beef more, especially since New Zealand lamb is best and expensive. I would imagine you could find good lamb from a butcher. My sister used to provide the San Francisco Muslim community sheep for Eid celebrations, before her kids went to college.
Haitham, are you a filet mignon and Ferrari kind of guy?
No kinzi, I`m not
, lool
I was “trying” to be funny, thanks for ascertaining that I`m not
Haitham, your sense of humor, as well we your intellect, is probably more developed than mine…being an old blonde I miss stuff. I did quite enjoy the ‘escape mechanism part’, it was not lost on even me
I know and u know that u got it the 1st time
I was kinda` making a “continuation” – linking the 2 posts L comments
Tasty lamb!
Not a lamb fan…but it’s good to know that Aye-rabs and Redd-necks have more things in common than we thought! Love the post!
Ha — California Grown lamb is way better than New Zealand product and yes for the wedding we did serve 200 (not 150 dearest Sis kinz )– all thought it wonderful…… to your friend that has touble in stores …..check farmers markets or call and we can arrange to deliver – slaughtered per custom if required — it was fun and so wonderful to have sis kinz here .. also little kinz — sadly lost old Ru (pyrenees) on Sunday and struggling to save Ruby — I think she tangled with a lion — time to hunt them here again — si, yes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
3ammo having fun — do not forget another thing A & A have in common — girlfriends!!!!!!!!!
Americans tend to like their meat rare or medium rare which is unacceptable to Arabs. The meat has to be well done with no hint of blood in the meat. This is one instant when the two groups are not alike.
Hey Blue! Learn something new every day. I know my dad liked his meat sickeningly rare, like cold in the middle.
Sista Kinz!!! Welcome!!! So happy to see a comment from you!!! I stand corrected, 200 people wahoo! So both the guys have girlfriends again? 3ammo’s having fun?? Oh wow. The same previous love interests or new? (oops, don’t answer that, I’ll email you
Thanks for helping Jaraad, he is in Missouri.
Aww, I am so sad about Rupert and Ruby. Lil Kinz will be too. Going on a lion hunt indeed, nasty creatures.
Samar, thanks!!!
Marvin, yummy it was indeed!
Kinzi’s sister, Mabrook (or congratulations!) for your daughter’s wedding. Thanks for your reply. As Kinzi mentioned I live in Missouri. I manage to get me some lamb from different sources but not as much as I wish to eat
