AMMAN – Criminal Court Prosecutor Mohammad Tarawneh on Wednesday charged a minor with the premeditated murder of his older sister in Tafileh on Monday for reasons related to family honour, official sources said.
The 18-year-old shepherdess, who was not identified by officials, was reportedly shot five times by her brother, a senior official source told The Jordan Times.
The suspect then headed to a nearby police station and turned himself in, handing over the machinegun he allegedly used in the incident to police officers on duty, the source added.
“The 17-year-old suspect claimed that he murdered his sister to cleanse his family’s honour because she got pregnant out of wedlock,” the official source said, adding that the victim was involved in an “illegitimate affair”.
On Monday, the victim was with her alleged lover and felt pain in her stomach “so he rushed her to a nearby hospital”, the source added.
“The victim underwent an operation but had a miscarriage and the hospital alerted the police since she was single and pregnant,” the source explained.
The woman was referred to the governor and he decided to release her to her family, “who pledged not to harm her and took her home to the tent they lived in”, according to the source.
Two hours later, the suspect walked into the tent and allegedly sprayed his sister with machinegun fire, the source added.
Pathologist Iwad Tarawneh, who conducted on autopsy on the victim, indicated that she received five bullet wounds to the chest, neck and stomach.
The Criminal Court prosecutor issued orders for the suspect to be detained at a juvenile centre for 15 days pending further investigation and also charged him with possessing an illegal weapon.

Wait, why did they let her family know that she pregnant? I don’t get it!
