Entering The New Millenium With a Flat Screen TV

As a late Christmas present, we surprised the Kounouz with a flat screen TV yesterday. I had been kindly nagging the Dear Hub for a little bit, pointing out that some cash Christmas gifts could be put toward this kid-considered necessity.

We were still using a small TV we bought 16 years ago to watch DVDs (yup, and videos!), and the sound connection was getting dodgy. Sometimes we watched movies to the sound track with the subtitles. Awhile back, when the Bean family upgraded, they kindly ‘lent’ us their US TV and older xbox for the kids to play on. That one worked great until last month, when the blue and green colors stopped – imagine playing Call of Duty without blue and green. It is already a game with too much red for my taste (and no, we don’t let them play all levels)

So the begging began, but we had ‘used’ Christmas as an opportunity to upgrade the kid kitchen computer where they do all their homework-related work weekdays, and play games on the weekends. We told them to pray and see what God does. With the gifts that game in late, The Hub hit a great sale. God often works through attentive parents :)

The look on their faces is worth it all.

While the male kounouz were hauling in the groceries, they saw the box. They thought it was a box with something else in it, until Baba Kounouz* said “hey guys, I will need some help getting this set up’” They stopped in their tracks, silent. I said “What, no shouts of hallelujah?“.  Spikekid said “We are still in shock”. But, where words lacked, activity picked up and they had it connected in no time, with lots of excitement and hugs and wordy gratitude.

When they popped in Lord of the Rings to see if it worked, I was the one stopped in my tracks. THE SOUND. Oh, the sound! I was not going deaf (although I probably am) the sound of clear dialogue was amazing!!! And sharp, oh the colors were so sharp! And big, 32″ feels like a theatre screen.

Yay, Baba Kounouz :D

  2. Sum, Allah yabarik feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeki :)
Anon, we try, and if it hadn’t been losing the color we would have waited. And yes, they are over the moon, which makes us happy and grateful, which multiplies our joy.

  3. Congrats on the new addition!

  4. You don’t need blue and green to see the red dot sights on your rifle in COD. But hooray for your new TV! Enjoy!
