Murder in Mafraq: 1st So-Called Crime of Honor for 2012

Because you know, the only way to deal with those promiscuous sisters is to off them.

AMMAN — Authorities on Sunday said they had arrested a 34-year-old man who reportedly murdered his divorced sister in Mafraq for reasons related to family honour.

A passer-by had discovered the body of the woman stuffed into a suitcase in a deserted area in the town of Um Jmal on Saturday.

The mother of four children was wearing pyjamas but had no identification on her.

“Police were able to identify the victim from her fingerprints and when they went to her house they discovered that her parents were dead and that she was divorced,” Public Security Department (PSD) Spokesperson Lt. Col. Mohammad Khatib said.

The PSD official told The Jordan Times that investigators questioned her only brother and determined that he was the prime suspect in the case.

The suspect reportedly confessed to having murdered his sibling “to cleanse his family’s honour”, a second source said.

“The suspect claimed that his sister, who lived alone in the Ain Al Basha area, was involved in illegitimate relationships and decided to kill her,” the source explained.

In his initial testimony to police, the suspect said his sister visited him on Saturday to ask for money and they “started arguing about her illegitimate affairs”.

“The suspect told investigators that he became enraged and strangled his sister with his hands, then stuffed her body into a suitcase and dumped it near a farm that belongs to their relatives,” the source said.

A postmortem conducted by pathologist Ali Shotar indicated that the woman had multiple bruises on her head and back and confirmed that she had been strangled.

The suspect was ordered detained for 15 days at a correctional facility pending further investigation into the case.
